Training Insights… Adventures in Diving Part 3: Who are your potential Adventure Divers?


Any qualified diver can choose to explore the underwater world in new and different ways. PADI Adventure Dives linked to Specialty Diver courses teach existing divers new techniques and give them the tools and knowledge they need to enhance their diving exploration.

There are over 25 Specialty courses available, covering a vast range of topic from photography to dive equipment and from marine life to wreck diving. There really is something to suit every diver!

PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 10 years old can enrol in an Adventure Diver course. Young divers may only participate in certain Adventures Dives – check the PADI Instructor Manual for more information on pre-requisites.

Top tips to attract new Adventure Divers

  • Use your existing customer database to send email newsletters and offers to promote upcoming adventure dives or special offers.
  • Make sure you include plenty of information during your PADI Open Water Diver courses so that your new, keen students will know what their next step will be and how easy it is for them to carry on their training. Many divers will get the bug after their first course and this is a great time to encourage them to book the next one.
  • Offer special packages to help cross-sell your courses and equipment, for example:
      • Digital Underwater Photographer adventure dive bundled with a new camera and accessory sales offer
      • Diver and Wreck Diver adventure dives bundled with a discounted dive trip to a local deep wreck site
      • Drysuit Diver and Ice Diver adventure dives plus a discount on new drysuits
      • Underwater Navigator adventure dive plus a compass and slate accessory set
  • Make sure you have plenty of promotional materials inside and outside your store to advertise your adventure dives. You never know when you’ll spark the interest of divers who are passing by. Don’t forget to make use of the various marketing tools available to help promote Adventure Dives to new and existing customers.

PADI ON TOUR – HURGHADA – October 2015

During the second week of October, Teo Brambilla (PADI Regional Manager), Pam Holt (Field Service Coordinator) Su-Li Wong (Consultant, Training and Quality Management) and Amir Khalil (Sales Representative and Product Consultant) conducted a joint trip to Hurghada.

SPATThe trip included a series of events and activities designed to provide support to the Egyptian market, PADI Dive center and Resorts and PADI members.

During the week, several meetings were conducted with key accounts in both Hurghada and El Gouna: the aim of these meetings is to provide customized business support in terms of marketing, social networks does and don’ts, training development, PADI continuing Education philosophy and digital training material use/benefits.

A dedicated PADI Pool Party, to introduce Turkish Airlines Staff to Scuba Diving, was conducted by PADI staff as a way to celebrate the great partnership between the two companies in running the PADI DIVE DAY.

TA pool3The PADI Member Forum took place on the 13th of October and more than 100 PADI Members attended: the presentation was delivered by Teo, Su-Li and Amir as representatives of their departments (Field Service, Training and Quality department and Sales).

mf5mfThe MF covered important topics such as, PADI’s market share in comparison with competitors – as part of the ‘Win with PADI’ value proposition, an overview of the revised OWD course and the exciting ‘ready to be launched’ PADI Freediver Program and a great workshop on the PADI digital products (how to purchase, assign, use …and benefits!)

This fantastic week ended with the PADI DIVE DAY!

September Winner for PADI Member Recognition: Orangeshark Diving Centres

Every day – from around the world – divers send PADI a steady stream of correspondence complimenting PADI Dive Centers and Resorts for outstanding customer service.

Each month, the PADI Member Recognition Committee reviews these submissions and selects one PADI Dive Center or Resort Member to be recognized as a global winner, an achievement which also features on the home page of the PADI Pros’ Site.

PADI Europe, Middle East and Africa is proud to announce that Orangeshark Diving Centres (S-22593, Malta) were selected as the Diver Education Center of the Month for September.

Their achievement follows a nomination by customer Andrew Rafferty:

I would like you to record my formal congratulations for the centre manager Steve Watkinson and Instructor Oliver Weissensteiner for the way in which they delivered the Scuba Diver course at the Orangeshark resort at Golden Sands, Malta.

As a headteacher I was impressed with the way in which the team balanced the elements of learning new skills, enjoyment, and ensuring the health and safety of the participants, which in this case meant meeting the expectations of my 16 yearold stepson and me, some 40 years older.

I also appreciated the communication between team members. After each dive and returning to centre it was obvious that the centre manager, Steve, had already been briefed by his instructor and had made decisions about how the next part of the course should run.

Our Instructor, Oliver, I feel, should be commended for his attention to detail and his thoroughness at every point in the course. He is obviously a skilled diver, but a patient teacher too. On a related note, the trainee Alex who accompanied us was also very supportive.

Their combined skills made our first diving experience memorable. Indeed we were so impressed with Steve and Oliver that we intend to return to Malta to further our skills and attain Open Water Diver standard.

Congratulations to Orangeshark Diving Centres for this exceptional achievement and for their professionalism and dedication to diver training and customer satisfaction!

Training Insights… Adventures in Diving Part 2: How easy is it to teach the theory?

How easy is it to teach the theory for these adventure dives?

Very! The easiest way to get started is to have your students register for Advanced Open Water Diver Online (PADI’s eLearning option) to get started immediately.

The web-based system will allow them to learn about seven of the most popular Adventure Dives via an easy to use, interactive online program. The program inclddes videos, audio, pictures and text, plus short quizzes to allow them to gauge their progress and review and correct anything they might happen to miss. This lets them move through the program efficiently and at their own pace.

The adventure dives included in the PADI Open Water Diver Online modules are:

  • Deep
  • Underwater Navigation
  • Night Diver
  • Peak Performance Buoyancy
  • Wreck Diver
  • Underwater Naturalist

They will also have access to an online version of the Adventures in Diving manual and can complete sections for other Adventure Dives as directed by you, the PADI Instructor.

The eLearning course will be available for one year from the time of course registration (though they will have permanent access to their online Adventures in Diving manual).

Once completed, you will be notified that the student has finished and they will be given an eRecord which they can print and bring with them to the dive center.

To finish, simply schedule sessions with your students to review their knowledge development before going on to complete their Adventure Dives.

Dive Against Debris: 100% AWARE Partner in Jeddah Takes Action

Alaa Al Masri 5 16.10.15On 16th October 2015, Alaa Al Masri, Project AWARE 100% AWARE Partner, joined by more than 30 dive volunteers, completed a Dive Against Debris survey in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The team removed 500 kg of trash #BeneathTheWaves and reported their underwater data to add to Project AWARE’s global effort to show the true extent of the marine debris crisis. The team of committed Dive Against Debris volunteers also conducted a beach club at Shams Resort to engage the local community and further raise awareness. On the very same day, Alaa Al Masri took on another challenge: raising funds for his favorite charity by taking part in a Finathon and setting up his own My Ocean Challenge raising over $500 to protect sharks and the ocean.
